The seven member commission works to stabilize, improve, maintenance and preserve the lake.

The five member commission works to diversify the species, ages and sizes of trees planted on city boulevards, parks and other public property, and assists the Mt. Lake Electric Department in the removal and replacement of trees that due to their location are a hazard to the department's distribution system.
